Thomas C. Glassburner

Glassburner Obit photoBURTON – Thomas C. Glassburner, 82, of Burton, passed away Jan. 25, 2016, at Briar Hill Nursing Home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Cleveland, to the late Thomas Wm and Clarice (nee Krause) Glassburner.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Linda (nee Reighard); daughter, Sharon (Dale) Decker; son, Thomas George (Wendy) Glassburner; step-sons, William (Staci) Poole Jr. and Steven Poole; grandchildren, Thomas Ryan, Anisa, Billy, Shai, Brice, Alissa, Brennin; great-grandchildren, Ella, Sullivan, Hayden, Wailynn; brother, Timothy (Teresa) Glassburner; and former wife, Christine Glassburner.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Rita Hissa.

Tom graduated from Burton High School, in 1951, and then went to the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, he owned Standard Oil Co. in Russell Township for several years.

He graduated from the police academy and went on to serve as a police officer with Russell and Chester townships for many years.

After retirement in 1999, Tom enjoyed working for H&H Hardware, where he was found in the back room fixing lawn mowers and chain saws. He also worked for multiple businesses in the area, making him known as Mr. Fix It and a workaholic by his family and friends.

When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Tom loved working on and showing his 1967 Mustang.

He was very active with Burton Volunteer Fire Department and was fire chief for several years.

Tom attended St. Helen Catholic Church and was a member of F.O.P.

Calling hours will be held from 3-7 p.m. Jan. 28 at Russell-Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St, Middlefield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 29 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury, OH 44065, with Father Jay McPhillips officiating.

Burial will follow the mass in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
