The Geauga County Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services received 19 applications for the position of executive director.
The Geauga County Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services received 19 applications for the position of executive director.
The position has been empty since former executive director Jim Adams was pushed out of it earlier this summer.
The board settled with Adams for about $212,000, including $77,854 to settle claims of emotional harm, an identical amount as compensation for alleged lost future wages and $41,816 as a payout of accrued and compensable sick and vacation time.
A public records request showed a majority of the applicants currently serve executive roles in regional mental or behavioral health systems. Three applicants are from outside Ohio, while the resumes of three other applicants were not included in the data provided.
State Rep. Diane Grendell, who will not return to the General Assembly after opting to run instead for Geauga County Auditor in the 2022 primary election — a race she lost to incumbent Auditor Chuck Walder — also turned in an application for the role. In her cover letter, Grendell cited her experience as a nurse for mentally ill children and adults, as well as her time in the state house as chair of the Children and Youth Subcommittee.
The next regular mental health board meeting will be held Jan. 18, 2023. More information can be found online at www.geauga.org.
