A 19-year-old Chagrin Falls man was killed in a car accident early Saturday morning and the Ohio State Highway Patrol said alcohol was a factor, as the crash remains under investigation.

Around 1:25 a.m. Sept. 25, state troopers responded to a one-car crash in the area of Auburn Road, just north of Butternut Road, in Munson Township, according to a Sept. 25 media release.

The preliminary investigation showed 20-year-old Ladislav T. Lubanovich, of Newbury Township, was driving a 2004 Toyota Tundra northbound on Auburn Road and failed to negotiate a curve, driving off the right side of the roadway. He over corrected and lost control of the vehicle, and slid back across the road and off the left side, striking two mailboxes, two smaller trees and a large pine tree.

Lubanovich was not wearing his safety belt and sustained serious injuries, the patrol said. He was transported via EMS to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center before being flown to UH Cleveland.

Montgomery Z. Myer, 19, of Chagrin Falls, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was killed as a result of the crash. He was wearing his safety belt.

Seat in the rear of the vehicle was 21-year-old Hunter E. Gerber, of Burton. He was flown from the scene to UH Cleveland with serious injuries. He was not wearing a safety belt.

Troopers received assistance from the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, and fire departments from Munson Township, Burton and the City of Chardon were all on scene assisting with the crash.
